Endyalgout Island is a 15 km wide, 10 km long section of the coastal plain, rising along its northern half to heights of 30 m. The entire northern, eastern and southern shorelines are surrounded by up to 1 km of intertidal salt flats and mangroves. Only along the southern half of the western shore, facing into Van Diemen Gulf, is there a break in the mangroves, where 2.9 km long, west-facing beach NT 169 is located. It extends from some low scarped red laterite bluffs at the southwestern tip, due north to the mouth of a small tidal creek, beyond which the mangroves resume. The sandy high tide beach is backed in the south by the low coastal plain, then a beach ridge covered with casuarina trees up to the creek. It is fronted by a few scattered mangroves growing on the 500 m wide mud flats.
