Beach NT 1001 begins immediately west of Wanaka Bay, commencing at a mangrove-lined rocky point and extending west for 400 m to a seawall and groyne. The sand and gravel beach faces south and is crossed toward the western end by a 100 m long fuel jetty. The Galupa community is located east of the jetty.
