Five hundred metre wide Bennett Creek separates the island from the predominantly mangrove-lined mainland shore, which is in turn backed by 7 km wide salt flats. A vehicle track crosses the salt flats to MacKinnon Point, located 4 km due south of Milingimbi, where there is a small gap in the mangroves, with a 100 m long beach (NT 670) and narrow tidal flats. Five hundred metres to the west the mangroves have been cleared for a barge landing. The beach and landing front on to the deep waters of the creek.
