On the southern side of the foreland begins the 8.8 km long main beach (NT 1293). It initially faces south-southeast, curving round to face east-southeast in the south. Despite its exposed orientation, nearshore and inshore reefs, including coral reefs off the southern end, lower waves particularly towards either end. It has reflective conditions in these locations, with a continuous bar along the central 6 km, which is only cut by rips during higher wave conditions. The entire beach is backed by moderately active dunes that average about 500 m in width. Older vegetated parabolic dunes have crossed the 2 km wide cape to reach the shores of Blue Mud Bay. Two small, usually closed, streams cross toward either end of the beach.
Beach Length: 8.8km
