The first 1.5 km wide embayment contains beach NT 253, a curving 2.2 km long northeast-facing sand beach, backed by a 300-500 m wide series of low partially cleared beach ridges, with a small melaleuca swamp behind the southern end of the beach. It is bordered by the red bluff to the north, and a wooded 500 m long 200 m wide headland to the south.
