Tree Point is located on the northern side of 3 km wide Hope Inlet. It forms the southern boundary of a relatively straight, west-facing, 11.1 km long beach (NT 149) that occupies much of the eastern shore of Shoal Bay. The beach consists of a high tide sand beach fronted by 300 m wide intertidal sand flats. It is eroding along the central-southern end, exposing mangrove peat. The sand has moved south to build a series of recurved spits that terminate at Tree Point. There is vehicle access to the beach via a 52 km long gravel and bitumen road from Howard Springs. This road services the Gunn Point Prison Farm, located 3 km behind the centre of the beach, and the Tree Point community, which consists of several houses located toward the southern end of the beach, as well as providing access to the Gunn Point Forestry Reserve which begins toward the northern end of the beach. There is a camping reserve at the beach but no facilities.
Beach Length: 11.1km
