On the tip of the point is a 1.5 km long high tide sandy beach (NT 162) largely clear of mangroves, fronted by 200 m wide mud and rock flats. There is vehicle access across the backing coastal plain to the eastern side of the point, where the Stuart’s Tree Historical Reserve is located. This marks the spot where on 24 July 1862 John McDouall Stuart completed the first successful crossing of the Australian continent.
