Beach NT 1162 is a dynamic recurved spit and represents the conduit for transporting sand from the updrift beaches deeper into the bay. It varies in length and shape and can detach and migrate deeper into the bay, attaching to parts of the mangrove shoreline, as far as beach NT 1161. In 1997 it was 300 m long. It is usually backed by mangroves, while fronted by 100-200 m wide sand flats and attached at the updrift end to the densely wooded coastal plain.
