Caves or Rangura beach (NT 1070) commences immediately south of the foreland in lee of the island. The straight 800 m long beach is bordered by the granite to the north, and calcarenite-capped granite boulders to the south. It is well exposed to easterly waves and has a continuous 100 m wide bar usually cut by rips every 150 m. A 4WD track and large parking area are located in lee of the northern rocks, with the remainder of the beach backed by an active foredune that is transgressing over older stable Holocene dunes that extend up to 1.5 km inland.
