Beach NT 1470 is 12.5 km long and the longest and largest of the migrating spits. It trends east for 5.5 km to an inflection then for another 7 km to the southeast. Sand is moving westward along the beach in the form of a 200-300 m wide band of shore-transverse and parallel sand ridges. The beach is prone to overwashing and largely unvegetated, with a series of active foredunes and blowouts and vegetated transgressive dunes overlaying the earlier inner spits sequences and in places the Pleistocene barrier. The Holocene barrier widens to the centre to reach a maximum width of 2.5 km. It onlaps an outer Pleistocene barrier, which is backed by 1 km wide salt flats and an inner 2 km wide Pleistocene barrier.
