Beach NT 1476 is an 8.1 km long series of beach ridge-recurved spits that is actively moving sand westward across the mouth of Stockyard Creek. The beach is paralleled by inner shore-transverse to outer shore-parallel sand ridges averaging about 500 m in width. The transverse ridges are indicative of longshore sand transport and induce crenulation in the shoreline. The barrier is composed of multiple recurved spits and spit splays to the west and is separated from inner spits by shore-parallel tidal creeks and mangroves. In 1968 the beach was breached by a creek which was closed by 1997. The three Holocene barrier spits are 2 km wide in the west, all backed by Pleistocene spits which widen from 1 km in the west to 4 km in the east, and then by 4-6 km wide salt flats.
