Baniyala beach (NT 1330) is located to the lee of a mangrove, rock and reef-fringed eastern point. The community is located at the northern end of the curving 2.2 km long south to southeast-facing beach. Rock flats and reefs fringe both ends, with a sandy beach and 100 m wide sand flats along the central section. Two to three hundred metre wide low beach ridges back the beach, then a 200 ha wetland that links to a 100 ha freshwater swamp 3 km west of the community.
