Beach Q 35 extends from the north side of Accident Creek at Fitzmaurice Point north for 3.7 km to a small tidal creek. The beach is part of a ‘drumstick’ barrier that has prograded south to the creek mouth as a series of more than 15 recurved spits. Beach Q 36 commences on the north side of the small creek and trends north for 4.6 km, finally grading into mangroves on the open shore in lee of the extensive tidal shoals of the Smithburne River. It is a narrow barrier also composed of south-trending recurved spits. Both beaches are fronted by 200 m wide sand flats, then low tide mud flats.
