Beach Q 288 commences on the southern side of the rocks and curves to the southeast as a narrow, crenulate beach for 1 km toward False Orford Ness. It is backed by vegetated transgressive dunes, and terminates at the 10 m high red bluffs that continue onto the Ness. It is also fronted by an irregular band of intertidal rocks and sand, then a 1.5 km long migratory subtidal sand ridge extending from the Ness to connect with the southern end of beach Q 287. The ridge lies up to 300 m off the beach.
