Sandy Point (FR12) is a 1 km long recurved spit at the southern tip of the long beach system. It curves around into the northern end of Great Sandy Strait to face south-west toward Urangan, 10 km across the strait. The beach consists of a narrow, steep high tide beach with relatively deep water off the beach. The spit partly encloses a mangrove woodland drained by a creek that exits at the southern tip of the point. On the north side, a small creek separates it from the adjoining Moon Point Beach.

Swimming

These are five generally low energy beaches, only active during strong south-west to northerly winds. Best conditions are toward high tide and clear of the creek mouths.

Surfing

None.

Fishing

Best at high tide and in the creek mouths.

General

A 60km long, little used section of the island, with no facilities and usually difficult vehicle access along the beaches, owing to the many creeks and narrow beaches.
