Beach Q 50 is a 1.3 km long south-facing beach that forms the northern shore of the Nassau River mouth and links the ends of the terminal recurved spits. It is a relatively narrow, steep beach fronted in part by the deep 200 m wide tidal channel. Beach Q 51 commences at the northern river mouth entrance and curves slightly as it trends north for 13.5 km to a small tidal creek that separates the southern accreting barrier from the eroding section to the north. It is backed by a beach ridge plain that widens from 100 m in the north to 1 km at the river mouth. The beach is moderately steep, with shellrock debris on the shore, and fronted by a 100 m wide north-skewed series of low tide bars and rips.
