Beach Q 54 is a relatively straight, 17 km long, west-northwest-facing beach bordered by Topsy Creek and the South Mitchell River. The beach is backed by a 3 km wide beach-foredune ridge plain containing over 20 casuarina-capped ridges. It has a moderate gradient and is fronted by a 50 m wide low tide bar cut by rips skewed to the north every 200-300 m. There is vehicle access to either end of the beach via tracks from Kowanyama, which is located 25 km to the east.
