Beach Q 140 is a 36 km long, relatively straight, continuous sand beach. It is backed by a 0.5-1 km wide series of Holocene foredunes, then the extensive wetlands of Nomenade Creek. The beach has a moderate to steep slope and is well exposed to the gulf waves, with periodic high waves maintaining a series of well developed rhythmic low tide bars and rips (Fig. 6.24), and backing highly crenulate shoreline topography (Fig. 6.25), with the bars and rips spaced about every 200 m.
