The beach terminates in lee of a 3 km long section of laterite reefs where the beach protrudes a few hundred metres to the west. Beyond the foreland beach Q 141 continues on for 3.7 km to the dynamic mouth of the Pennefather River. Toward the river mouth the foredunes splay into the mouth, widening to 1.5 km. The beach is backed by partially active foredune, through which vehicle tracks run up to the river mouth. Rhythmic bars and rips parallel the beach, widening into 500 m wide river mouth shoals adjacent to the river. At times a low recurved sand spit extends from the northern tip of the beach into the river mouth.
