Beach Q 186 commences on the eastern side of the small headland and trends to the northeast for 800 m, as a crenulate sandy high tide beach, fronted by 200 m wide rock flats, which narrow to the east. Wooded slopes rise to 40 m behind the beach, the same slopes forming the western boundary of Cowal Creek, a 500 m wide funnel-shaped tidal creek that connects to upland streams.
