Beach Q 196 commences at the tip of Red Island Point and curves slightly to the northeast for 800 m, to a low bedrock point. The southern half of the beach is backed by the beachfront caravan park, while trees back the northern half. It is fronted by 200-300 m wide sand and rock flats, then the deep 200 m wide channel between the shore and Red Island.
