Beach Q 62 emerges from the 10 km of mangroves that front the Melamen Plain to trend north-northwest for 3.5 km to the mouth of the 50 m wide Chapman River. The beach has a moderately low gradient and is fronted by a 200 m wide subdued intertidal sand ridge. It is backed by a 4 km wide densely vegetated beach ridge plain, then the southern salt flats of the Chapman River and the inner Nine Mile Ridge Pleistocene barrier.
