Beach Q 70 is a low shelly barrier island that forms off the river mouth and episodically extends southward to link with the northern end of beach Q 69. In 1969 the beach was 1 km long and largely unvegetated and surrounded by bare sand flats. By 1989 it had extended another 1 km to the south and linked to the beach, and become partially vegetated and backed by extensive mangroves on the sand flats, a position it maintained in 1994 (Fig. 6.13). Over time however it is expected that major floods will rework the entire beach system, and the process starts again.
Beach Length: 2km
