Moffat and Shelly Beaches lie north and south of 30 m high Moffat Head. The head, together with Caloundra Head 1.5 km to the south, forms the northern boundary of a protruding bedrock peninsula that is occupied by much of the city of Caloundra. Moffat beach (1552) is an 800 m long, curving, crenulate, roughly east facing beach that is bordered by a protruding rock platform to the north and the bluffs and rock platforms of the head to the south, with the small Tooway Creek usually dammed in the centre. Two grassy reserves with good access and parking lie to either side, all surrounded by residential housing. Waves average less than 1 m at the beach which, together with the medium to coarse sand, maintain a relatively steep beach with no bar. However, higher waves generate a rip against the northern rocks.
Beach Length: 0.8km
