Nanum Beach is the first of the two main Weipa beaches and is located 1.5 km west of the town centre. The beach consists of two parts, the southern 900 m long beach Q 126, and the northern 100 m long beach Q 127, with the small mouth of Trunding Creek forming the boundary in between. Both beaches are narrow, with melaleuca trees growing right to the high tide line, and are fronted by 500 m wide tidal flats with scattered rocks (Fig. 6.22).
