A protruding bluff separates Flour Cask Bay from the remainder of D’Estrees Bay beach (KI-74). The beach initially faces southeast and receives waves averaging over 1.5 m high, which maintain several rips, in addition to numerous reefs in the surf zone. As the shore swings to face due east, and a shallow, seagrass-covered bay floor fronts the beach, ocean waves gradually decrease to zero (Fig. 5.16). Occasional storms pile seagrass on the beach, which is a persistent feature of the southern half of the beach. Figure 5.16\tThe southern end of D’Estrees Bay is typified by calm conditions and seagrass debris littering the beach. The D'Estrees Bay Road reaches the bay about halfway along the beach and follows the southern 6 km of shoreline, providing access to the shore and informal camping sites (permit required), however there are no facilities, other that a store 2 km back along the access road. The road continues on past Point Tinline to the southern beaches.
Beach Length: 12.3km
General Hazard Rating: 7/10
