Cape Dombey beach (136) is a 30 m long pocket of sand lying immediately north of the Cape Dombey car park. It is a highly visible beach, though not a popular swimming location.

Swimming

The five protected beaches are all relatively safe under normal wave conditions. However be careful of rips against the rocks when waves exceed 0.5 m, and of the rocks themselves. Long Beach is safest at the southern pedestrian end, where waves are usually less than 1 m and rips absent. However once up the beach, wave height increases to more than 1 m, the surf zone widens and rips occur every few hundred meters.

Surfing

Long Beach is Robe’s main and most popular surfing beach. It offers a wide surf zone, with usually moderate breakers spilling across the low gradient beach.

Fishing

Robe has a wide range of fishing locations, including the jetty, breakwater and low rocky headlands, beach fishing along Long Beach, and boat fishing in the Bay and over the inner reefs.

General
