Five Mile Beach is 7.9 km or 5 miles long. It runs straight throughout its length and faces the south-south-east. The northern end receives waves averaging 1.3 m, which produce occasional rips along the attached bar. Toward the south, the beach is partially protected by Cape Wellington and Horn Point and wave height decreases to less than 0.5 m. As this occurs, the beach steepens and a wider, shallow bar fronts the beach. The beach can be reached by a walking track that comes out 1 km south of the northern point. A camping area is provided in the northern corner of the beach next to Miranda Creek and is called Five Mile Camp.

Swimming

Safest at high tide and toward the south as the northern rips will intensify at low tide.

Surfing

Best in the north when a moderate swell is running.

Fishing

Also best in the north where there are rocks and the possibility of rip holes along the beach.

General

A long steep sandy beach backed by low dunes ridges. The northern camping area has the beach, creek and rocks.
