Locker Island commences on the northern side of the 200 m wide southern Urala Creek mouth. Beach WA 1653 forms the first 1.4 km of the shore and is entirely located to the lee of the tidal channel and entrance shoals. As a consequence it is protected from waves, but paralleled by the deeper tidal channel, while it is backed by a 2 km wide series of older recurved spits.
