Cape Boileau is a 2 km long strip of beachrock, which has formed around mangroves during a 2-3 m higher stand of the sea, possibly during the last Pleistocene high stand. The lithified beach and mangrove stump holes form what is locally called the ‘petrified forest’. The Barred Creek track runs around the north side of the creek to the ‘forest’. The 7 km long beach (K 23) begins beneath the steep beachrock bluffs, then continues north as a sandy beach backed initially by boulders and pindan bluffs, then a 4 km long section of active dunes that have extended up over the bluffs and up to 1 km inland. This is a popular area for beach and rock fishing at the mouth of Barred Creek.
Beach Length: 7km
