Beach WA 1970 commences on the northern side of the low Cape Missiessy. The cape is surrounded by intertidal calcarenite flats dotted with mangroves. The beach trends north-northeast for 4 km to the 100 m wide mouth of Mangrove Creek. The creek drains a shallow lagoon located behind the outer series of foredunes-recurved spits, with up to 30 well developed ridges extending 2 km to the east of the creek mouth, where they are backed by a 2-3 km wide backbarrier depression. The recurved spits indicate the creek has migrated nearly 4 km northward from near the cape to its present location. At the same time up with 10 foredune ridges have prograded the shoreline up to 400 m seaward of the innermost spit. The southern end of the beach is fronted by low gradient sand flats with scattered mangroves. These grades into a several hundred metre wide ultradissipative beach, then the tidal shoals of the Mangrove Creek.
Beach Length: 4km
