Beach WA 1971 is located in the centre of the bay between Mangrove Creek and the 100 m wide northern creek. It is 2.2 km in length, faces west out of the centre of the bay, and is backed by the wide series of foredune ridges and backbarrier area. The northern creek meanders across the entire foredune ridge plain, and disconnects the northern and southern ridge systems. Between the two creeks the beach extends several hundred metres seaward as a low gradient ultradissipative system.
