Beach WA 1978 commences on the northern side of 200 m wide Jaubert Creek that drains out along Cape Jaubert. The southern 1 km of the 5.9 km long beach is a recurved spit that has migrated part way across the creek mouth. The spit grades into a 1 km wide series of up to 16 foredune ridges, including inner recurved spits. This is in turn backed by an 8 km wide backbarrier depression drained by the two tidal creeks. The beach is fronted by an upper ultradissipative beach, which grades into extensive 1-2 km wide tidal flats associated with the southern tidal creek and sands accumulating in the southern half of the bay.
