Beach WA 2000 is a 3.3 km long spit that has extends south from Black Rock Point across the northern side of Cowan Creek, and helps enclose the 1 000 ha shallow lagoon filled with mangroves and extensive salt flats (Fig. 4.423). Since the original spit was formed the shoreline has prograded 500 m to the west, with the outer 100 m of foredune ridges reactivated and transgressing across the spit. A vehicle track runs the length of the rear of the barrier to reach the 200 m wide creek mouth. The beach has an upper ultradissipative section grading into 1 km wide low tide sand to mud flats.
