Burremul beach (WA 12) is named after the Burremul Sand Patch which has originated from the 26 km long beach. The dune system extends inland between 3 km in the west to 8 km in the east, and is in turn backed by the larger Wurrengoodyea dunes. The Burremul dunes have blown eastward at an acute angle to the coast and have travelled in places 30 km from the beach source. There is evident of three periods of dune activity. First is the inner, most extensive dune field, then a second now stable system with a more northerly orientation extending 2-3 km inland, and the modern active dunes, which in the east extends 200-500 m inland, decreasing is size and occurrence to the west. The beach is protected by the shallow nearshore zone with waves shoaling and breaking across the reefs to average about 0.5 m at the shoreline, together with numerous low amplitude reef-induced
