Beach WA 89 extends due west of Tagon Point for 5.1 km to a low 200 m wide, bare domed granite headland. The beach is exposed to waves averaging over 1.5 m and to the full force of the southwesterly winds. The waves maintain a 100 m wide rip-dominated surf zone, with permanent rips against the point and rocks, located 500 m west of Tagon Point, together with up to 15 beach rips. It is backed by active dune transgression, which widens from 200 m in the west to 3 km in the east, where earlier now vegetated dunes have dammed the linear Boolenup Lake.
