Beach WA 117 commences on the northern side of Cheyne Point and is initially protected by an island just off the point with waves averaging about 1 m. However a strong current can flow though the 50 m wide rocky channel between the point and island. Waves increase up the 1.5 km long beach with the central-northern section averaging 1.5 m high waves and an 80 m wide surf zone usually containing three beach rips and a permanent rip against the northern low granite point.
