Castletown Beach (WA 147) commences on the western side of the harbour and curves slowly to the west then southwest for 3.5 km (Fig. 4.39), finally terminating at the now disused Esperance jetty. Wave height decreases along the beach, averaging about 0.5 m at the jetty. The beach commences with a continuous low tide bar and a few rips, grading into a continuous narrow low tide bar at the jetty. Castletown Road then residential development backs the western half of the beach, the first beachfront houses in Western Australia. In addition between the junction with the highway and the jetty are is a seawall and four rock groynes that have each slightly reoriented sections of the beach.
