Six kilometre long beach WA 184 commences against a 100 m long section of low gneiss rocks, and trends west for 5 km, before curving round in Fanny Cove to finally faces north. The exposed eastern section of beach receives waves averaging about 2 m which maintain a 200 m wide surf zone, with both beach rips as well as permanent rips associated with beachrock outcrops in the surf and along the beach. In total about 15 strong rips are usually present. The western 1.5 km receives increasingly lower waves, with waves in the cove averaging less than 0.5 m. Seagrass grows just offshore in the cove and some seagrass debris piles upon the beach. The beach is backed by vegetated calcarenite bluffs rising 70-90 m, with the dunes extending up to 10 km inland. There is a sheltered camping area in lee of the cove beach, with a picnic area on the point. The Muir brothers established a sheep farm in lee of Fanny Cove in 1888 and used the cove to ship their wool and sandlewood. The cove was also used by miners enroute to the Dundas and Norseman goldfields in the 1890’s.
