The eastern half of the main beach (WA 179) commences immediately west of the 50 m high dune capped Barker Inlet headland and trends west for 3.5 km before a continuous band of beachrock separates it from the western half. The beach receives moderate to high waves, which break across a 150 m wide surf zone, dominated by discontinuous beachrock reefs in the inner surf, resulting in hazardous conditions and several small but strong permanent rips amongst the reefs. Boulder beaches lie behind the beachrock, abutting 30-40 m high vegetated calcarenite bluffs, including two clifftop blowouts, with the track running along the crest.
