Beach WA 186 lies immediately to the east of the 20 m high Shoal Cape. It is a curving 1 km long southeast-facing reflective beach (Fig. 4.50), which receives refracted waves, lowered to less than 1 m. These maintain a moderately steep, cusped reflective beach, backed by partly vegetated sand dunes originating from beach WA 187. Shoal Cape forms the southern boundary of the To the west of the cape is a series of three shore-parallel, beachrock reefs, perhaps the best developed multiple series of beachrock reefs in southern Australia. The outer reef lies up to 500 m offshore, while the inner reef is attached to the shore. The reefs represent prior positions of the shoreline, where the sandy beach has been cemented as beachrock. Waves break heavily on the outer reef and are progressively lowered by the second and third reefs. The vehicle track leads to the western end of beach WA 187, where there are two campsites and wooden steps leading down to the beach. Beach
