Beach WA 31 commences on the western side of the 500 m long point and continues west for 1.3 km to a 100 m band of dune-capped bedrock. While the beach is well exposed to southerly waves they are lowered slightly by inshore bedrock reefs and Franklin Rock, a small islet 2 km to the south. The beach receives waves averaging about 1.5 m high which maintain permanent rips at either end and 2-3 beach rips crossing the 100 m wide bar. During calmer periods the beach rips can infill and a continuous bar front the beach. There is foot access across the dunes from the picnic area at the southern end of beach WA 30. The beach is backed by a vegetated frontal dune area, then a 10 ha area of active dunes that have transgressed up to 500 m inland, with older vegetated dunes extending up to 1 km inland.
