Beach WA 1869 is one of the longer beaches in the Pilbara region extending east of Cape Cossigny for 12 km to a low mangrove-fringed calcarenite foreland. It faces northwest and curves gently between the western boundary creek and the foreland. The western tip of the beach consists of a series of recurved spits that have migrated into the 300 m wide tidal creek that separates it from the cape (Fig. 2.16b). The beach then extends to the east as a steep high tide beach which receives waves up to 0.5 m at high tide. Active dunes rising to 20 m back much of the beach and extend 200-500 m inland terminating against a 500 m long section of mangroves that extends up to the tip of the foreland. They are backed by mangroves then salt flats for the first 5 km, then the low gradient deltaic plain. Vehicle tracks follow the rear of the dunes and reach the creek mouth. The eastern end of the beach.
