Beaches WA 1877-1879 are located on the western 1.5 km of a low energy, partly mangrove-fringed discontinuous barrier island that extends for 5 km immediately east of the main river mouth (Fig. 4.400). The river mouth is a 1 km wide tidal creek, bordered on its eastern side by beach WA 1876. Beach WA 1877 is a 400 m long recurved spit, that faces west across the river mouth. It is fronted by the deep tidal channel, with mangroves fringing either end of the spit. Beach WA 1878 curves east of the mangroves for 250 m and is partly fringed by mangroves. At its eastern end the shoreline turns and trends due east for 400 m as beach WA 1879. This is a gently curving beach fringed by mangroves to either end, where it grades into recurved spits. The central open beach is fronted by 600 m wide tidal flats. The barrier which the beach occupy is backed by a 2 km wide series of inner beach ridge-barrier islands then 2-3 km wide salt flats. There is a vehicle track across the salt flats to a tidal creek in the centre of the barrier, but not to any of the beaches.
Beach Length: 0.4km
