Barrens Beach (WA 259) is a 200 m long south-facing beach wedged in between the base of East Mount Barren in the west and the rocks and reefs that separate it from beach WA 258 in the east. It is partly protected by its orientation and the reefs and receives waves averaging about 1 m, which maintains a 60 m wide continuous shallow bar (Fig. 2.11a). It is usually free of beach rips, through higher waves induce rips against the boundary rocks. It is backed by a 10 m high foredune and a partly stable blowout extending about 200 m inland. There is a small car park at the western end of the beach.
