Beach WA 260 is located 300 m to the south and occupies the mouth of a steep valley descending from the mountain. It is a 50 m long, east-facing pocket of sand backed by a steep vegetated valley and bordered by massive quartzite rocks, with rocks and reefs almost encasing the small beach. Waves are low and the beach usually reflective. It can only be access around the rocks from Barrens Beach. To the west of Barrens Beach steep metasedimentary terrain rising as high as 300 m dominates the coast for the next 40 km to Dempster Inlet. These rocks are the southern edge of the Yilgarn block, the ancient core of continental crust that underlies much of southern Western Australia. Between East Mount Barren and Edwards Point, the next major headland 7 km to the southwest, are three beaches (WA 261-263).
