The beach receives waves averaging 2 m which break across a 200 m wide surf zone containing an inner bar cut by 4-5 rips and an outer bar with 3-4 rips, as well as a permanent rip flowing out against the eastern headland. Partly active transgressive dunes have climbed up over the backing bedrock extending up to 3 km inland and to elevations of 70 m. Today there are more than 300 ha of bare active sand dunes.
