Mary Ann Haven beach (WA 254) faces due south and while exposed to strong winds is sheltered from ocean waves by a shallow 2 km wide reef system that lowers waves to less than 0.5 m at the shore. The beach commences on the western side of the Hopetoun jetty and extends west for 700 m to a low but prominent sand foreland, formed in lee of the reefs. Shallow reefs and a mixture of sandy substrate and seagrass meadows extend seaward of the beach. Hopetoun backs the eastern half and the caravan park the western half of the beach. While there is no surf at the shore there is a heavy lefthand break, called Crazies out on the reef edge.
