Beach WA 273 lies 300 m to the southwest in the next small embayment. It is a narrow curving 200 m long cobble beach, backed by steep partly vegetated slopes, and bordered by steeply rising quartzite headlands, with rocks and reef doming the surf zone. A single strong rip drains out the northern side of the bay. All eight Whalebone beaches are exposed to high waves and dominated by strong usually permanent rips, with rock and reefs strewn along the beaches and in the surf. They are extremely hazardous and not recommend for swimming. To the west of beach WA 273 is a 17 km long section of rugged rocky coast composed of steeply dipping metasedimentary rocks which rise steeply to over 100 m. Rocky shoreline dominates with only a few small pockets of sand, cobbles and boulders located at the mouth of a few of the steep creeks. The first three beaches (WA 274-276) are located either side of Quoin Head. Quoin Head is a steep 50 m high metasedimentary headland located 4 km southwest of Whalebone Beach. It is the westernmost accessible beach in this part of the park, with a 4WD track winding down the steep gradient to the rear of the beach where a camping site is located next to the small dammed lagoon.
