Beach WA 1863 is a 1.8 km long high tide reflective beach that occupies the western half of a 3 km long barrier island. It is bordered by mangroves to each end and backed by a moderately active foredune extending up to 200 m inland, with foredune ridges to the east. Beach WA 1864 is located at the eastern end of the barrier and is a 200 m long open section of beach, with 50 m wide mangroves to either side. The entire barrier is backed by a 2 km wide series of four inner barriers, then 7 km of salt flats. There is no vehicle access to the island.
